Meeting – · Talks about family, has four kids ranging in age from 21 to 15. Oldest daughter is bi-sexual and came out when she was 15. · Talks about taking medications to change her body · Talks about heterosexuals, transgender, cross-dressers (how 100 years ago 98% of the females in the room would be considered cross-dressers as they are wearing jeans) · Knew she was different then her brothers when she was about 5 years of age · Talks about how transgender people know that they are transgender from a very young age · $15,000 - $20,000 in the USA where its about $6,000 in Thai-land just for genital surgery · Ohio will under NO CIRCUMSTANCES change the sex on the birth certificate they will how ever change the name on it · Starbursts is a transgender support group · Did things differently then her brothers did when she was younger · Had a St. Petersburg Times newspaper follow her around for about 6 months and wrote an article on her titled ‘The Making of Maddie’ · Had her name changed 3 weeks before her divorce the court name change went fine · Went back 3 weeks later to be divorced and found it was the same judge · Transgendered people are very rare 1 in 11,000 females have the operation to become male and 1 in 27,000 males have the operation to become female · After 6 months of therapy she started taking hormones · None of the therapy, hormones, medications or surgery is paid for by insurance · Open Questions Why do you think not very many people know about transgender? Selfishness, not wanting to learn about something they don’t understand. They are scared of what they don’t know anything about.
